A typical Fingerprint Recognition System combines several key elements including the Fingerprint Sensor and the Bio-Engine. A sensor is a hardware component that captures the fingerprint image and it can be either a touch sensor or a swipe sensor. The Bio-Engine is a piece of software that resides on a processing system (laptop, mobile phone, MP3 player etc) and its function is to enrol, identify and verify the person’s fingerprint. The person either places or slides their finger over the sensor and once the image is captured the Bio-Engine then processes the image to give the resultant pass or fail.
